How can something so good for people be so bad for tires? Performance, handling, safety, cost-all of these things are impaired by the compressed air inflating your tires. On average, tires filled with air lose one to three pounds of pressure each month; the warmer the weather, the more pressure they lose. Oxygen contains moisture, which oxidizes and eats away at rubber tires. Plus, oxygen molecules are small and leak from tires, lowering pressure and performance and affecting safety and handling.

How Air Harms Tires

Compressed air (oxygen) contains moisture which oxidizes and damages rubber tires. Oxygen molecules are 3 to 4 times smaller than nitrogen, and so, leak 3 to 4 times faster. After tire rubber breaks down due to oxygen damage, tires lose elasticity, strength and air.

Why Nitrogen is Better

Nitrogen is a dry gas, free of moisture. Because it's dry, nitrogen doesn't damage rubber tires. Nitrogen's larger molecules don't leak like oxygen. Nitrogen is less susceptible to leaks caused by normal temperature changes.
